Back in Dublin , Back at School

I certainly missed the first 2 days of tutorials.. some of them were cancelled so didnt miss much..

its so typical that u turned up for a tutorial early in the morning.. the next thing u know u've been standing in front of the ward for almost 15 min and still no sign of the reg or SHO..someone tried to bleep them.. no answer.. waited for another 30 min.. then everyone just decided its not gonna happen :/

i saw a few patients.. including a fireman but he's already in his 40s.. we had to do neuro exam on his left leg coz he has lower back pain , weakness on the leg.. he was so proud of his quads , all his exercise has paid off afterall!

one particular patient has a very interesting background..however , it was so difficult to finish my history coz he kept interrupting me with his questions about liver disease! yes he was a medical doctor indeed!! its so unfair to give us such patient coz i know medical staff are poor historian!!! i know i will be! but looking at the bright side , he taught us about the treatment and management and what to look for in someone who has Chronic Hepatitic C (thats what he has)
he's russian and talked very soft , sometimes i just couldnt understand what he's asking me.. i think it was obvious on my face that ive lost my temper .. towards the end of the history, he started to loosen up , making jokes and we had a few laffs ! i saw on his bed a few pieces of papers with his handwriting , scribbling what appeared to me like a short story or a blog or maybe he's writing an autobiography of himself...hmmm..

coming to social history.. he said he lives in ireland for 6 yrs working in construction business.. i mean u have a medical degree.. why r u doin construction work!!! he said ooohh there was a problem in russia.. and i asked what problem? .. he said aahh its a long story , u can come back in the evening and i can tell u my story for 24 hours.. u will crrryyy when u hear it!

interesting.. curious i am! so after finish everything , we looked up in his chart.. just to complete our history.. there are a few points that are contradicting.. very inconsistent! then we found piece by piece of his story!

he was an obstetrician and gynaecologist in russia.. he told us that he was an assistant professor teaching student.. no wonder!!! then the best part comes.. in one of his GP / hepatology consult letter said he was in prison back in russia due to political reason ( i wonder whyyy... ) and was tortured with needles and thats a possible of getting hep C! but he told us ( and the doctors ) he had a blood transfusion when he was a child ( which also can also be a medium of getting hep C )..
geezz.. he reaally has an interesting loonngg story to tell us!!! Jean really wanted to come back and listen to his story .. but how r we gonna approach him?? hey could u tell us about ur story in russia?? that doesnt sound rite... but if he is writing a book, i would definitely get one copy of it!

well thats the story of my interesting patient! its a mind boggling.. kept me thinking about it for the whole evening!!
