All i can remember is the stress that i went through.. Everyday was the same routine.. Wake up at 6 , after Subuh instead of going back to bed , had to force myself to stay away from the bed.. have breakfast watch a bit of TV ( max 15min ) just to give myself some motivation .. then straight to books and notes till lunch.. allocated time to rest is only 1 hour , that is to cook and eat.. then slept at 11 or 12.. The routine is a way to train my body and mind to face a greater challenge during the exam week especially the clinical exam..
Time was very tight.. I kept telling myself there's no time to waste.. so many things to read and revise.. and this is the only time that i would do such thing... i thought i was going maaddd!!!
It's all about discipline and study smart.. there is no point of studying so hard that you compromise your health...
The Written Exam
Medicine - I am so glad that almost everything that I focused on came out in the exam.. because of the rush of ideas , time was very very tight for me!!! my fingers hurt!!!
Surgery - Enteral feeding?!!? wadeheeell.. I didnt read anything about it!!! It's time to ramble around it! hahahah.. There was so many things to write but so lil time to spend!!!
Psych MCQ - This was a funny exam.. no one was fully prepared for it.. i had to force myself reading the book 2 days before exam.. it was soo tough that i dunno if i could pass it!
Ahhh 3 down and 2 more to go!!!!

Cause of Death
While waiting around at Gogarty Ward for the next tutorial , Robert told me that the lady that I saw few days before was dying .. She has Cancer of Head of Pancreas (diagnosed in July 06) , which obstructing her common bile duct.. According to her history , she went through quite alot last year , from being severely jaundice to ERCP-induced perforation of retropharyngeal pouch to ARF .. u name it..
When I took the history , she was very pleasant and she was not in pain or anything . In fact , she thought that she should not be in the hospital . It was only when her nurse and daughter-in-law thought that she looked jaundice , they decided to take her to the hospital . That nite i read in the book , 95% of this kind of cancer would die within a year . I thought she was doing well...
I presented the history to her doctor and she said that they were not doing anything on her at the moment because they wanted to wait till the intrahepatic duct are dilated so that they could do PTC (Percutaneous Transheatic Cholangiogram) to relieve the jaundice . I didnt see her after that and i think many student went to see her afterwards .
Finally on that day , i saw her daughter-in-law outside of the room with a guy which maybe the son and they looked quite sad. The curtains were pulled out around her bed and everything was just so quiet in the room...
Later in the afternoon , I walked pass the ward and saw the bed was gone ...

Roughly a month before Final Exam
The tension rises every day.. and the winter vomiting bug strikes again.. loads of ward in Tallaght Hospital have been closed due to the outbreak.. and the final med students are desperate to see as many patients as they can!
Luckily the surgical wards are still open to everyone.. I tried to see at least 3 patients a day with satoko or maybe other ppl in my group.. So far I've seen quite interesting cases.. A lady with ERCP-induced pancreatitis , 2 patients with intermittent claudication , some gallbladder problem and IBD and many more..
And these patients are in the hospital for quite some time.. so everyday , i would bump into one or 2 patients that i've seen before.. and its a nice feeling when they acknowledge you when you see them at the corridor.. and they would wish us good luck for the exam.. we really need that , badly!!
When i was doing medicine , me jean and satoko went to see a middle aged guy with UC.. I'd say he's not too bad with an attractive accent.. however satoko didnt agree with us.. hehe.. we did maintain a good rapport with him.. and last monday , me and satoko got on the same lift with him.. couldnt believe he's still in the hospital! He said hi to us and i asked him how's everything and all.. It felt amazing when someone like that still remembers us ,the medical student who didnt contribute anything to help him with his disease and yet still get the acknowledgment..
These little things are really a motivation for me to finish my study , pass my final exams (hopefully with some honors!) and be able to wear "Dr. Shaz Shaharan" badge :)

This is So True!
You Are 28% Shy |
You are slightly shy, but overall, your reactions to social situations are normal. You dread difficult social situations, but you still handle them with grace. |
It's amazing how people change over time.. I used to be very shy ( i know Im gonna get lotsa slagging after this! ) but over these years , i realized that there is no point of being too shy.. I'm just gonna lose out if i keep being shy . No doubt there are certain times and situation that pull me back but Ive learned to put a straight face and get on with it! hehe.. Lets cherish my achievement : I've presented in front of the whole people in my class twice , I volunteered to approach patients if I go with my friends , I asked more questions and try my best to answer questions in group discussion , My classmates know me better than other Malaysians , well maybe they know Jia too.. hehe
Overall , I'm much more interested in meeting and talking to new people .. There is so much you can learn from others , the good and the bad. Just like the Malay saying , yang baik jadikan teladan , yang jahat jadikan sempadan . ( Literally translated to - make good things as examples, and the bad things as boundries . Anyone has better translation? heheh )
The Keys To My Heart ??
Thanx to Shafeez for sending the link , it forced me to get up from my nap.. And the result is quite accurate !
Have to be self centred now coz of the exam! hehehe..
The Keys to Your Heart |
You are attracted to those who are unbridled, untrammeled, and free. In love, you feel the most alive when things are straight-forward, and you're told that you're loved. You'd like to your lover to think you are stylish and alluring. You would be forced to break up with someone who was ruthless, cold-blooded, and sarcastic. Your ideal relationship is open. Both of you can talk about everything... no secrets. Your risk of cheating is zero. You care about society and morality. You would never break a commitment. You think of marriage as something precious. You'll treasure marriage and treat it as sacred. In this moment, you think of love as something you can get or discard anytime. You're feeling self centered. |
Have to be self centred now coz of the exam! hehehe..

What a surprising result !
You Are Barney |
You could have been an intellectual leader... Instead, your whole life is an homage to beer You will be remembered for: your beautiful singing voice and your burps Your life philosophy: "There's nothing like beer to give you that inflated sense of self-esteem." |
Definitely my burps! hehe..
